MANILA, Philippines — The bodies of the four overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who were killed in the deadly magnitude 7.7 quake in Myanmar on March 28 were returned to the country and turned over to their respective families over the weekend, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

Aid will be provided continuously to their families, including livelihood and local employment assistance, it added.

“Rest assured that, upon instructions of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and [Migrant Workers] Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, we will provide all the necessary assistance and support to the bereaved families during this time of grief and their utmost need,” Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan said.

Earlier, the families of the quake victims received financial support from the DMW’s Aksyon fund.

The Philippine Embassy in Yangon and the Migrant Workers Office in Bangkok, Thailand, had arranged the repatriation of the remains of the OFWs who died at Sky Villa Building in Mandalay, the second largest city in Myanmar. —Jacob Lazaro
