Sara Duterte meets with OFWs in Qatar ahead of Hague visit

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte met with overseas Filipino workers in Doha, Qatar ahead of her birthday on May 31.
On Tuesday, Duterte, together with Senator Imee Marcos, attended several “thanksgiving” activities in Doha with overseas Filipino workers.
Marcos expressed appreciation for being invited to the event and having the chance to reunite with Duterte’s mother.
“I was invited, along with our Vice President here in Qatar, for an important gathering of our countrymen; I am also very happy to be reunited with Inday’s mother, Mam Elizabeth Zimmerman,” Marcos said in a short statement.

Meanwhile, after she visits Qatar, Duterte is scheduled to head to the Netherlands, where she will stay until June 4.
She is set to meet with her father, former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, in The Hague on May 30 and again from June 2 to 3.
On her birthday, Duterte is also set to participate in a peaceful gathering organized by various Filipino groups in front of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

The ICC currently has custody of the elder Duterte, who was arrested and brought to The Hague over alleged crimes against humanity committed during his administration’s bloody war on drugs.
His infamous war on drugs left at least 6,000 people dead, with human rights groups reporting the number could be as high as 20,000.
