In a press conference, the President spoke of the “very productive” bilateral meetings that he had with the Kuwaiti Crown Prince and the prime ministers of Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia in the past two days.
“We spoke now with Kuwait about the interaction between the Philippines and Kuwait. They would like to say how grateful they are for the contributions that our OFWs have done to the development of their country. They have been very kind to us,” he said.
Mr. Marcos said his bilateral meetings are very important to the Philippines as they expand collaboration with other nations in trade and the economy, defense, agriculture, and other vital sectors.
Mr. Marcos and the Kuwaiti Crown Prince had a bilateral meeting two years ago in Saudi Arabia on the sidelines of the Asean–Gulf Cooperation Council Summit.
Meanwhile, the President said ASEAN leaders also extensively discussed the ongoing civil unrest in Myanmar.
Mr. Marcos reiterated his support for Malaysia’s call for a ceasefire of hostilities to bring humanitarian aid to those in need.
He also assured Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, this year’s Asean chair, that he will follow through on commitments or agreements on Myanmar that will be crafted when the Philippines assumes chairmanship of the regional bloc and hosts next year’s summits.
