MANILA, Philippines — Eighty-nine foreigners were deported from the Philippines from June 3 to 5, the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) announced.

“These individuals were apprehended during a series of inter-agency operations targeting illegal offshore gaming operations and scam hubs nationwide,” PAOCC said in a social media post on Thursday night.

Seventy-seven of the deportees were Vietnamese while 12 were South Koreans, the task force further detailed.

PAOCC added that the deportation of the 89 foreigners was part of an effort to deport a total of 140 this June.

“More deportations are expected in the coming days, subject to the availability of implementation orders from the BI (Bureau of Immigration) and the issuance of clearances by the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation),” PAOCC said.

Vietnam visit

In the same post, PAOCC said Executive Director Undersecretary Gilberto Cruz went to Vietnam to meet with its Criminal Police Department.

The task force did not say when the meeting took place.

Representatives of both the Philippine and Vietnamese governments discussed strengthening ties as part of an effort to fight transnational crimes, especially syndicates operating in Southeast Asia, PAOCC detailed.

“We will be creating a near-regional cohort of intelligence, coordination and legal associations to assure the syndicates do not move their operation from the Philippines to another jurisdiction and convert back to operational mode again,” Cruz said in the post. /das
