MANILA, Philippines — Representatives of major government agencies including the Social Security System (SSS) and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) had flown to Hong Kong to deliver frontline services to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), according to House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

In connection with this, Romualdez assured OFWs that the government will now be more accessible to them in accordance with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive.

“Today, we open not just the doors of a new facility – we open the doors to better service, deeper care, and a stronger commitment to our Bagong Bayani – our OFWs,” Romualdez said in a statement during his speech in the grand opening of the Department of Migrant Workers-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (DMW-OWWA) OFW Global Centre and the Bagong Bayani ng Mundo – OFW Serbisyo Caravan.

“We are also joined today by various government agencies that have flown in and come to you, bringing their services—from SSS, Pag-ibig, PhilHealth, to DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development), PSA (Philippine Statistics Authority), PRC (Professional Regulation Commission), and many others. This is the spirit of the Bagong Bayani ng Mundo – OFW Serbisyo Caravan,” he said in mixed English and Filipino.

The lawmaker also assured them that the lower chamber will push legislation that “protects, empowers, and honors our OFWs.”

“Let this center be a symbol of our commitment to serve—not just in words, but in action. Your dream of providing a good life for your family – that is our dream too. So let’s act together,” he added./mr
